Blogtober Day 18 - The Get To Know Me Tag!

Months ago, when I first suggested Blogtober, Sarah-Louise Writes suggested that one of the posts I should do should be a 'Get To Know Me' tag. The thought of it popped into my head again today, so I thought I'd give it a go!

What is your middle name?
Marie. I can't say I'm fond of it - it feels very much a 'filler' middle name. I was given it because I was born in May and my parents wanted to have some variation of 'Mary' in my name. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How old are you.
I'm currently 26.

When is your birthday?
The end of May. Right in the middle of exam season, which was a bit of a pain from the ages of about 14-21.

Where are you from?
I'm from Northern Ireland. I live in Belfast, but I'm not originally from the city - I'll always be a Co. Derry girl at heart.

What is your favourite colour?
Does gold count as a colour? I'm a little obsessed with gold ATM - if you couldn't tell by my blog theme. If not gold, then teal!

How tall are you?
About 5 foot 5 (and a half).

Cats or Dogs?
Cats forever. Cats are the best. I love cats. Cat cat cat cat.
Mandatory cat picture of Poppy.

How many countries have you visited?
I've been to 12 different countries so far: UK, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, France, Switzerland, the US, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Portugal, and Greece. (Those aren't in any particular order!). I'd love to visit some more - at one point I wanted to visit 30 countries before I hit 30 but I don't think I'll manage that, sadly, even if I count England, Scotland, and Wales as three different countries!

Favourite thing to do?
Tough question! I love baking (and eating things I've baked), watching TV (particularly factual stuff), travelling and planning travel (though I can't do as much of it as I like), photography (again, I don't do as much as I'd like), and I like walking, particularly through a quiet forest or park. Although the thing I seem to do most often is lie on my bed and kill hours of my life browsing Reddit...

Favourite flower?

Are you in/gone to college?
I've both a BSc and an MA, although both are a few years behind me now! I studied Biological Science in Birmingham as an undergrad, and then did the MA in Documentary Practice at the University of Ulster.

What was your favourite/worst subject in high school?
My favourite subjects were art and biology. I still have a tiny bit of regret that I didn't do an A-level in art... My least favourite subjects were English literature and maths. English seems an odd subject to dislike for someone who loves books as much as I do, but I've always maintained that there is no better way to ruin the enjoyment of a book than having to analyse and write essays on it.

What is your favourite drink?
Alcoholic? I'm a big fan of Malibu and pineapple or orange juice.
Non-alcoholic? 95% of what I drink is water, 4% coke zero, and 1% herbal tea.

What is your favourite animal?
My favourite individual animal? It's this cat:
Look at her little adorable furry face!

My favourite animals in general? Well, aside from housecats, I love the big cats in the zoo. Lions and tigers and leopards, oh my! I also love owls, and rabbits, and pandas... I kind of love most animals, alright?! There was a reason I studied biology 😂.

What is your favourite perfume?
I'm a little bit obsessed with 'I'm Home' by Lush at the minute, though I don't actually own it (it's going on the Christmas list!). It smells like baking! In terms of perfumes I do own, I switch between
Florence Anne's 'Blackcurrant and Fig' (which I picked up in Boots last year in their Boxing Day sale) and Lolita Lempicka.

Tea or Coffee?
Neither, really! I'll occasionally drink chamomile or fruit tea, but I can't stand ordinary tea at all. I'm also trying to develop a taste for coffee - at the moment I can just about manage a tiny pumpkin spice latte, but that's it.

What would you name your children?
Rosemary and Arthur are my two top picks at the minute.

What is your favourite book?
My favourite novel is 'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell' by Susanna Clarke (which, if you're unfamiliar with it, is an amazing alternate history fantasy novel set during the Napoleonic war era with the premise that magic has disappeared from England... but is returning with two magicians: the titular Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.
My favourite book, on the other hand, is The Little Prince. But I kind of feel that that's a bit useless as an answer, hence separating book and novel!

Favourite book series?
Yeah, that's going to be the Harry Potter series, with honourable mentions going to the Series of Unfortunate Events, Temeraire (though I haven't read most of them yet!), and Agatha Christie's mysteries.

What is your favourite movie?
I don't actually have one? I'm not a big film person! I prefer TV programmes - the lengths are much more manageable!

What are some of your favorite tv shows?
The Great British Bake-Off is my life right now. I'm not even joking. I'm actually obsessed.

Do you speak any different languages and how well?
I speak very very basic French (not even really enough to hold a conversation), and just about enough Italian to read a menu. I keep meaning to try and improve my language skills, because they're very useful things to have.

Do you have any siblings?
I have one brother, who's two and half years younger than me.

How would you describe your fashion sense?
Comfortable and semi-casual. Well, pretty casual to be honest, but I tend to like clothes I can wear to work. Thankfully I work in a casual enough office, and though I'll happily show up in jeans, I've left my band t-shirts behind me.

What is your favourite restaurant?
Does Boojum count?!

Honestly though, I don't feel like I have a favourite restaurant. I don't go to them enough to visit one in particular multiple times - there's too many in Belfast I haven't been to yet to make a proper decision!

PC or Mac?
I was PC all my life and I swore I'd never switch to Mac... until last year. Now look at me, typing away on my MacBook...

Honestly though, while I love my Mac more than any human should really love an inanimate object, I still understand how to use PCs much better and I find them easier, if not as pleasant, to use!

 What phone do you have?
iPhone 6S. I've had it for nearly two years now and I'm still happy with it, no plans to upgrade yet! (Also, I do not want to lose my headphone jack!)

Tell us one of your bad habits?
I suppose one of my worst habits is lying in bed until the last possible minute every morning. I have to get my Echo, my phone, and my alarm clock to all go off... and even then it takes me forever to get going, so I'm always in a rush in the mornings.

Again, I'm not going to tag anyone in this post, but if you liked reading it, do it (and let me know!).
